Tuesday, October 5th marked a historic day for Infinity Properties. As the first step towards the construction of over 650 homes, we’re excited to officially “break ground” on our master planned community in Abbotsford: The Rail District. Our largest project to date, our team at Infinity Properties is thrilled at the potential this thriving community holds and is honoured to be a part of its expansion.
Launch of the Master-Planned Community
The Rail District will be the site of a new “master-planned community blending urban excitement with laid-back Valley living.” The launch of our new five neighbourhood plan began with a ceremonial ground-breaking at the site of the Rail District. Despite our recent event, this project is a few years in the making, dating back to 2016. Our team at Infinity Properties have spent nearly three years planning, adjusting, and expanding our ideas to get this project just right.
Initially, our planning consisted of a seven-phase project; four dedicated to townhouses with the remaining three reserved for apartments. It took a few years to attain our development approvals, however, in 2019 the City Council gave us the much anticipated greenlight. To further the expansion, our company has recently purchased land on the other side of Pine Street. Once a seven-phase project, we’re now in the process of planning phases eight and nine.
Expansion of the Rail District: What Can You Expect?
Located on the property of the former Clayburn Brick plant, the Rail District will be in the heart of the historic Downtown Abby. This 19-acre site is situated east of McCallum Road and north of George Ferguson Way and Pine Street. Our multi-year plan will add five new family-oriented neighbourhoods to the Rail District: Brickyard, Hillside, Railside, Ridgeline, and The Rail Plaza.
To kick off the expansion, we’ll be constructing 91 townhomes, varying between two- and three-bedroom units. Long-term, our plan is to expand Abbotsford’s historic downtown core by building over 650 townhomes and condos with approximately 80,000 sq/ft reserved for commercial businesses, offices, retail stores, restaurants, and more.
We anticipate that sales for the first 91 townhomes will launch by Fall 2022. Our next several phases are awaiting development permits; however, we estimate that the project will be completed within 10 to 12 years.
Our vision expands beyond simple construction; we hope to further the sense of community in the area. By building thoughtfully planned and carefully executed neighbourhoods in the heart of the community, locals can embrace urban living with close-knit feels.
Merging Historic and Contemporary
This land possesses many unique characteristics. Being the once historic Clayburn Brick factory, the Rail District is expected to become one of the most desirable and dynamic places to live in the Fraser Valley.
The new developments will be within walking distance to downtown, generating an increased population to support local businesses. Central and accessible, we’re excited to bring more life into this historic district and surrounding areas. With increased access to the Rail Trail running along the Canadian Pacific Railway, this city will be even more well-connected and walkable.
At Infinity Properties, we value the connection between land, people, and local perspectives. This furthers our sense of pride and honour in the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in this community. Our goal is to not only design a place but a feeling. Touching on local historical significance and natural beauty, our plans connect people, places, and ideals.
Thank You!
To quote our founder Tim Bontkes, “we’ve got a beautiful project here” and we’re proud to do our part in expanding this “progressive city.” A team effort, the city council, city staff, and the Abbotsford Downtown Business Association have been an integral part in creating this vision for the historic area. We’re deeply grateful to have the city’s support in constructing this dream project. Furthermore, we’d like to thank the community of Abbotsford for allowing us to make our vision a reality; we hope this development brings endless opportunities.
We’re so excited to see what this next decade will present for our company, our people, and the community of the Rail District. Time to get started!
