Redefining the Townhome: Introducing Modern-Farmhouse Design to Panorama Ridge

Who says you can’t have a 20-foot ceiling in a townhouse?

When we had the opportunity to build homes in South Surrey’s Panorama Ridge, we knew we wanted to create a new kind of development that would complement the community. Named for its amazing location, the neighbourhood is walkable and livable—and most of the homes here are the traditional single-family kind. Our team began by doing research and exploring what made sense for this South Surrey neighbourhood, and it quickly became clear that we could pivot our thinking and push for better use of this land. We learned that we could fill a need by building unique master-on-the-main townhomes for both down-sizers coming from single-family homes and up-sizers looking for something larger and more customizable.

We also wanted to take this as an opportunity to innovate with our architecture and design. While most townhomes in the Fraser Valley are tall and narrow, we opted for a horizontal design offering a wide-open floorplan and convenient one-level living. The result: rancher-style townhomes that feel like spacious single-family homes. And with ten units to the acre, these homes have plenty of breathing room: there is open space between homes, individual driveways, spacious backyards, landscape buffers and a park for the community to enjoy. The design was inspired by the modern farmhouse aesthetic—which was a natural fit for the rancher-style floorplan. Upscale touches like mullioned windows, shiplap feature walls, vaulted ceilings and gas fireplaces created a cozy, modern feel, and a sophisticated colour palette was punctuated with bold black hardware and finishes.

Because the launch of this new community coincided with lockdown measures to curb COVID-19, we had to take great care to establish a sales process that protected the safety of our buyers and our team. Despite the challenges brought by the pandemic, Eastridge sold out quickly. The project’s success during such uncertain times demonstrates how important it is to constantly innovate our product—and always strive to build homes that meet the changing needs of the community.
